Léa Lemaire, Lucas Oesch and Lorenzo Vianelli presented their research on dispositifs of refugee reception at the seminar of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, at the University of Luxembourg, on 13 November 2018. Their presentation was entitled “Using Foucault’s notion of dispositif. The case of border management and urban planning in refugee reception”. They presented how they analyse various case studies, such as the detention of Sub-Saharan migrants in Malta, the EU refugee reception regime in Sweden and Italy and urban planning in refugee camps in Jordan, through the notion of dispositif. Their aim was to show how they operationalise the Foucauldian notion of dispositif in different case studies and in different contexts, namely in Europe and the Middle East, as well as in relation to different fields of research, namely border studies and urban planning.
